Since we called it a high-tech machine, we will now highlight and briefly explain the techs available in it, however please note that not all models are equipped with all of the tech. Some were optional item.
BMW Efficient Dynamics – active air vent control, economical yet lightweight engines in its class, intelligent generator control with Brake Energy Regeneration, electromechanical steering. Petrol Engines – beating various competitors in terms of output and fuel consumption , claiming best in its class. The 353i straight-6 engine combines turbocharging with Valvetronic variable valve technology but only consume 8.5 liters per 100km. Diesel Engines – the 520d comes with Manual transmission and engine Auto Start Stop function which kills the engine during standstill and auto re-crank once the clutch pedal is pressed. Eight-Speed Automatic Gearbox – smooth, quick and efficient gear change. Integral Active Steering – the rear tyres turns up to 3 degrees to aid this huge machine during turning. At low speed, the rear tyres turns opposite direction as opposed to the front steering, while in high speed was the other way round. Dynamic Damping Control – Adjustable damping rate to Comfort, Normal, Sport or Sport+ setting coupled with its DSC Stability Control and all three steering, shift and pedal response time. Adaptive Drive – An optional modules whereby the damping control is adjusted automatically depending on road conditions. Head-up Display – an optional 4-color display projected onto the windscreen appearing as if it was on top of the bonnet around 2 meters from the driver. This keeps the driver aware of many useful information without the need to take off their eyes too far from the road. Parking Assistant – an optional system which helps the driver to find suitable parking space by using their sensor to measure the width and length and then assist the driver to park in. The steering will be taken charged while the driver only accelerate or brake as instructed. Night Vision with Pedestrian Recognition – a thermal imaging system scans far ahead of the vehicle for pedestrian even if it was a total dark and warns the driver.
Up to now, BMW Group Malaysia are importing only the 523i and 535i. However, they are still working on the CKD unit. According to them, more ranges will be available soon based on the table above. The 523i is priced at RM398,800 while the 535i at RM598,800. Note : pictures and table above is based on BMW Model Range and BMW Magazine Special - The new BMW 5 Series Sedan. |
