Michelin was a very well known name in tyres world. They produce tyres ranging from bicycle to heavy duty vehicle and from commercial tyres to racing tyres. In this review, I am talking about Michelin Pilot Preceda 2, which is fitted on my Nissan N16 sizing 205/45 R17. It is rated as an Ultra High Performance (UHP) tyres.
General Review Since I was not really a financial-free person, affording a set of tyres like this was satisfying enough for the meantime. Owning it for the first month really worries me as it was my first time to use such a low profile tyres. When my mechanic drove my car, I can see the tyre's sidewall being compressed to around 30% when he drove onto a slope horizontally. Oh yeah, by the way my tyres pressure was in perfect condition that time. By my previous statement, you can conclude how soft and comfortable this set of tyres are, not to mention its quietness. It was surprisingly quiet! I do mean it. Read on! My worries slowly fade when my friend told me that the tyres will eventually hardens up after some time. And he was correct! Do not get misleaded by the word hardens, surprisingly it does not do any negative effects to the grip. That was based on my personal opinions as I did trash them since I own it until now. To my analysis, when it gets harder, it will last longer and give more protection to my rims. The only setback was it is getting noisier after about a year. Performance Review Now, about performance I would say its handling during high speed cornering was really predictable. The ease of braking was noticeable especially during hard braking. In other words, stopping distance was decreased dramatically compared to my previous tyres (which was also a performance tyre but of lower grade). It perform well in wet too, no doubt on it as it was traction AA graded. Running over shallow damp of water in high speed does not cause my steering to pull aside much. However, I dare not to push too hard in corners during wet but it perform well enough on par with my guts. Conclusion Up to now, the grips and performance I'm having is still fairly the same as when I get them brand new and they still have an average of 5.5mm depth of thread left, which is really amazing as I grade myself as a semi-aggressive driver, plus it was rated as UHP tyre bear in mind. The only drawback on this is still only its increasing noise level over time but honestly, it is tolerate-able. Overall, this was a very good buy to me and I strongly recommends this to my readers. Scores: DAY GRIP 4.5/5 WET GRIP 4/5 COMFORT 4.5/5 NOISE 3.5/5 BANG FOR THE BUCKS 4.5/6
