Term Definition
accelerate

An action by pressing the accelerator/gas pedal to get the car moving away.

accelerator

Refers to the gas pedal, which u places your right foot and step on it to gain speed of a car.

Aerodynamic

A shape design of the external body parts to allow the wind to bypass efficiently through the moving car. If the design is aerodynamic enough, it will not only reduce the wind drag to increase fuel economy, but also will increase the grip of that car gradually in fast speed.

air filter

A filter placed at the air induction inlet to filter off unwanted dirt and particles to prevent them to get into the engine and shorten the engine life.

airbag

It is a security feature that is mounted into most of the car nowadays. As its name describe, it is a bag which will pop up very instantly when an emergency happens. The bags contain rich air preventing the driver or passenger to knock against panel in the car.

alarm

A security feature that was built-in in all cars to prevent theft. A normal alarm system will remote lock and arm the car. Any interruption during the arming will cause the alarm to sound. Usually more expensive cars will have more complicated alarm system.

anti-roll bar

It is a bar used to connect the right and left of the suspension to minimize body-roll during hard cornering. This is to achieve the most parallel contact path between the tyre and the road.

automatic transmission

A type of transmission that automatically changes the gear when your car is at different speed. This is used on most of the road cars nowadays due to its convenient feature. This type of transmission are easy to operate but it do not have the power like the manual transmission provide.

axle

A supporting shaft under the car which both left and right wheel is connected to. There is basically two axle on each car.

blow-off valve

It is a device or system that purge the extra compressed air created by the turbocharger when the throttle is closed so that the extra pressure would not get into the engine and cause explosion. On the other hand it also safe from the extra pressure getting back to the turbine causing it to stop completely or burst.

body-roll

During hard cornering, you will felt that your car tends to slides or pulled towards outside the road. The outer part of your car seems lower while the inside was higher. The forces and weight all are focused towards outside of the car, which is no good. The body of the car “rolled” and this is what we call body-roll.

boost

Normally people will refer boost with forced induction system like turbo or supercharger. The boost is the measurement of atmospheric pressure applied on the system.

brake

A system to stops a car. It is that simple but it can be used to describe an action too, for example: the car brakes once he saw the cow is crossing the road.

brake disc

A metal type of material which looks like a disc and is directly mounted on the inner side of the vehicle's wheel together with the rim of a vehicle. When the brake is applied, the brake pad comes into contact with the brake disc causing friction and generates stopping power.

brake pad

It is a “brake shoe” to hold down the brake disc when we want the car to stop. It is located inside the brake caliper.
